I posted a link to this ornament the other day. Here is the first one. Don't mind the paperclips. The glue is still wet!! The first one took me all afternoon to do. But I have the system down and I finished probably 75% of it in about an hour and a half. Although it was very time consuming, it only took 5 sheets of 12X12 scrapbooking paper and some white glue. Oh and lots of paper clips. So not a bad handmade. I plans for a few more. Once they are all done I will post more pics!

Stille Nacht
One of the most famous Christmas carols in the world, "Stille Nacht" was composed in Austria in the early 19th century. The lyrics were written by the assistant priest Joseph Mohr and the melody was composed by teacher Franz Gruber. According to Gruber, it was sung for the first time at the Christmas Eve mass in Oberdorf near Salzburg in 1818. By mid-century, translations into English as "Silent Night" had appeared, and by the turn of the 20th century, the tune was being sung all over the world.Lyrics

Frohliche Weihnachten
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
wie treu sind deine Blätter!
Du grünst nicht nur
zur Sommerzeit,
Nein auch im Winter, wenn es schneit.
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
wie treu sind deine Blätter!
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
Du kannst mir sehr gefallen!
Wie oft hat nicht zur Weihnachtszeit
Ein Baum von dir mich hoch erfreut!
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
Du kannst mir sehr gefallen!
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
Dein Kleid will mich
was lehren:
Die Hoffnung und Beständigkeit
Gibt Trost und Kraft
zu jeder Zeit.
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
Das soll dein Kleid
mich lehren.
bring ' euch milde Gaben, sollt' euch dran erlaben.
Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling, kling, Glöckchen, kling.
Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling, kling, Glöckchen, kling.
Hell erglüh'n die Kerzen, öffnet mir die Herzen,
will drin wohnen fröhlich, frommes Kind wie selig;
Lasset uns sehen in Bethlehems Stall,
was uns verheißen der himmlische Schall!
Was wir dort finden, lasset und künden,
lasset uns preisen mit frommen Weisen.
Halleluja.
Wahrlich, die Engel verkündigen heut'
Bethlehems Hirtenvolk gar große Freud.
Nun soll es werden Friede auf Erden,
den Menschen allen ein Wohlgefallen.
Ehre sei Gott.
O du fröhliche
O du fröhliche, o du selige,
gnadenbringende Weihnachtszeit!
Welt ging verloren, Christ ward geboren:
Freue, freue dich, o Christenheit!
O du fröhliche, o du selige,
gnadenbringende Weihnachtszeit!
Christ ist erschienen, uns zu versühnen:
Freue, freue dich, o Christenheit!
O du fröhliche, o du selige,
gnadenbringende Weihnachtszeit!
Himmlische Heere jauchzen dir Ehre:
Freue, freue dich, o Christenheit!
Süßer die Glocken nie klingen
Süßer die Glocken nie klingen
als zu der Weihnachtszeit:
'Sist als ob Engelein singen
wieder von Frieden und Freud'.
Wie sie gesungen in seliger Nacht.
Wie sie gesungen in seliger Nacht.
Glocken mit heiligem Klang,
klinget die Erde entlang!
Oh, wenn die Glocken erklingen,
schnell sie das Christkindlein hört;
tut sich vom Himmel dann schwingen
eilig hernieder zur Erd'.
Segnet den Vater, die Mutter, das Kind.
Segnet den Vater, die Mutter, das Kind.
Glocken mit heiligem Klang.
Klinget mit lieblichem Schalle
über die Meere noch weit,
dass sich erfreuen doch alle
seliger Weihnachtszeit.
Alle aufjauchzen mit herrlichem Sang.
Alle aufjauchzen mit herrlichem Sang.
Glocken mit heiligem Klang.

I'm Boycotting Christmas
This year we will celebrate Yule with a big party for family and friends. Everyone will be informed that we will not be exchanging gifts. If they insist on buying the boys something, and they likely will, I am going to ask that they keep it very small and relatively practical. It's not like they won't have another opportunity 3 months after Christmas to shower them with cheap plastic crap!! (Especially since this is an even birthday year! Which means an insanely huge party for those of you that aren't in the loop.)

Merry Christmas to me!
We found the price tags to be quite entertaining. For example there was a circular needle with a price tag of $1.08 and a cable needle for a price tag of 98 cents.
Grandma had a thing for size 10 1/2 knitting needles (there are 4 sets) and size J crochet hooks (there were 3, but I am with her on that one, I am quite partial to that size as well). I am very excited to find the Tunisian Crochet Hook. I have really wanted to try my hand at Tunisian crochet but I couldn't find a hook anywhere.
Now with all my grandmother's wonderful knitting needles I will have to learn to knit. So far I have been unsuccessful but I have a new found desire now. :) So who out there wants to be my knitting mentor?????
